How to Use Your Avatar in Video Calls
Use your Janus avatar as a webcam in Zoom, Google Meet, Discord, or any video call app. The trick: OBS acts as a bridge, turning your avatar stream into a virtual camera that any app can use.
1. Start a Session & Open the OBS Wizard
- Start a session with any avatar.
- In the lower toolbar, click the broadcast / OBS button to open the OBS wizard.
2. Copy Your OBS Link
The wizard displays a unique URL for your avatar stream. Click Copy to copy it to your clipboard.
3. Add a Browser Source in OBS
- Open OBS (download free from obsproject.com if you don't have it).
- In the Sources panel, click ➕
- Select Browser from the list.
4. Paste the URL & Configure
- In the Browser source settings window, paste the URL you copied from Janus.
- Set the resolution to 1920 × 1080 for the best quality.
- Click OK.
5. Verify Your Avatar Appears
Wait a moment for the connection — your avatar should now appear in the OBS preview.
6. Start the Virtual Camera
In OBS, click Start Virtual Camera (bottom-right). This creates a new webcam device on your system called OBS Virtual Camera.
7. Select OBS Virtual Camera in Your Video Call
Open your video call app and go to camera/video settings:
- Zoom — Settings → Video → Camera → OBS Virtual Camera
- Google Meet — Settings ⚙️ → Video → Camera → OBS Virtual Camera
- Discord — User Settings → Voice & Video → Camera → OBS Virtual Camera
Your avatar should now appear in the call instead of your regular webcam.

Make sure you clicked Start Virtual Camera in OBS. On some systems you may need to restart your video call app after starting the virtual camera for it to appear.
You're Ready!
You can now join any video call using your Janus avatar. Your friends, colleagues, or audience will see your animated character instead of your real webcam feed.
